Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Anthony

Sunday School

The St. Anthony's Sunday School meets every Sunday during the early stages of the Divine Liturgy. Our sessions include approximately 45 minutes of instruction and then all staff and students return for the remainder of the Liturgy. Our Sunday School year works on the same calendar as the school year. We begin our classes in September and wind down at the end of May. No classes are held during the summer months.

The Parish focus for Sunday School is Orthodox education. Three levels are currently in place. Level One includes children in the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten age group. Level Two covers children in the grade one to grade three age group, and Level Three the grade four to grade six age group. We are blessed with wonderful instructors that provide invaluable education of the Orthodox Faith to our children. Our teachers use many of the resources that have been made available by the OCEC and are encouraged to attend Church School workshops. Our Sunday School Director is Carolyn Mulek who also teaches our Level Two students. Tania Shapka and Mackenzie Reed are new instructors this year and will provide instruction to our Level One children and Donna Reed leads the Level Three students.
Special Sunday School events are held periodically throughout the year. These include "Super Saturdays" which provide opportunities for children and youth to participate in an age appropriate religious discussion with the Parish Priest as well as Ukrainian cultural activities such as Pysanky Writing (Easter egg decorating) and making bread. We also include other creative/educational activities like clay working and many other craft projects. The Sunday School students participate in our annual St. Nicholas Night, our "Day In Ukraine" festival and many other parish activities. Our year ends with "Family Fun Day", an annual picnic with family-oriented games and a wonderful day of great food and fellowship attended by not only our students and their families but by our entire parish family!

Youth Education

Once a student graduates from the Sunday School program, he or she is encouraged to attend the full Liturgy on Sundays and further Orthodox instruction is then provided by the Parish Priest in conjunction with our Youth Group.

Adult Education

Adult education is provided by the Parish Priest through "All Christian Teaching" Sundays and various lecture series such as our popular "Inquirers' Class."

ACT Sunday - "Death - What happens to the soul?"

Father Patrick led a group of 16 participants through the UOCC Guiding Principles of Vision 2000: A Bible Study. These participants undertook the review of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada's bylaws as requested by the Consistory and eight became parish delegates for the Extraordinary Sobor in August, 2008.
Tuesday Bible Study classes with Father Patrick will resume in the fall.
